Tom McGuinness (ex-Manfred Mann) and Hughie Flint (ex-John Mayall) formed McGuinness Flint in 1969 . Songwriters Benny Gallagher & Graham Lyle, and vocalist Dennis Coulson completed the original line-up. In later years, the band went through various personnel changes and were joined for a period by Neil Innes, amongst others. McGuinness Flint enjoyed immediate success, with their first two singles, 'When I'm Dead And Gone' (1970) and 'Malt And Barley Blues' (1971), both reaching the top 5 in the UK charts. Unique recordings of both of these songs are included on this album. They enjoyed further chart success with the release of their eponymous debut album, which reached number 9 in the UK charts in January 1971. After a succession of excellent albums, the band eventually split in 1975 and Tom & Hughie went on to enjoy success with Paul Jones in The Blues Band. Between 1970 & 1974, McGuinness Flint receorded several sessions for BBC Radio 1. The best of these are now released here for the first time, as compiled by Tom McGuinness. Tom has also wrttien the extensive liner notes for the accompanying 8 page booklet, which also features several rare photographs from his own archive. HUX029
